James Pillatzke knows how to throw a great party. Since opening his shop in downtown Overland Park, he’s been a major force in turning third Fridays into a fun destination, and Friday night was a great example of this. Seven models walked the runway, wearing some gorgeous vintage clothing that was on sale that evening, as well as some amazing knit clothing by Ali Farris of Queens Over Jacks Handmade. Jay Ridings did an excellent job on the makeup, which somehow didn’t melt away completely in the heat and humidity. James, of course, did the hair. He always does amazing work.
There was art and amazing sushi from Intentions and there were drinks and an energetic DJ and drummer combo. I’ve seen groups that use drum machines, so it was pretty cool seeing a live drummer with a DJ. Real drummers breathe life into music that drum machines just can’t do.
There was a lot of press at the event, including a photographer from Ink and a live broadcast on Fox 4‘s 9:00 broadcast! All in all, a very good evening for downtown OP. I had a great time. And P.S. the sushi was awesome!
